Privacy

The short version: there is nothing to disclose, because nothing is collected.

On the Mac, the operating system denies Balance network access: the app ships sandboxed without the network entitlement, so it can't phone home, fetch remote configuration, or talk to any third-party service. On every platform there are no analytics, no crash reporters, and no advertising identifiers. You don't have to take our word for any of that: verify it yourself in about a minute.

Your journal is a plain-text file you choose. It's stored where you put it: in your own iCloud Drive when your device has iCloud Drive on, on the device when it doesn't, or wherever it already lives if you open that file yourself, in which case Balance edits it in place rather than taking a copy. Apple's iCloud infrastructure handles that sync under your Apple ID. We never see the file, and we run no servers that could.

The app lock is optional and stays off until you switch it on. With it on, Balance asks the operating system to confirm it's you before it will show your journal: Face ID, Touch ID, your passcode, or your Mac login password. Your face and fingerprint data never leave your device's Secure Enclave and aren't available to any app, Balance included. The app asks the system a question and is told only yes or no. Nothing about the attempt is recorded or sent anywhere, and the only thing stored is the on/off setting.

The App Store handles purchases; we receive no personal information from them.
